"My kiddo had a difficult time finding benefit from therapy (tried several therapists) so we decided to try Empowering Teens Coach and it made such a difference! There’s a noticeable difference in my kid’s independence, confidence, and handling the transition to young adulthood thanks to coaching with Dee. Dee is very professional and worked with all of us to help him develop his goals and keep him accountable all while empowering him to take the leading role in his own life." ~A.L.
Imagine your teen or young adult feeling good about their day and accomplishing the goals they set out to do. How would it feel to see them talking with ease among their peers or with people in the community because they worked through their fears of being judged? What would it be like to hear them say that they managed their emotions during a challenging situation and that they're proud of themself? What if they had the courage to try out for the team, go after the job they want, or set healthy relationship boundaries?
Teenagers are going through daily highs and lows of navigating life while dealing with the pressures of academics, family relationships, friendships, love interests, peer pressures, rapport with teachers, jobs, extra-curricular activities, and trying to plan their future successes.
Talk about overwhelming!
When things get too heavy in any one of those categories, life in the other areas can be challenging to keep balanced. That's why it can be helpful for adolescents to talk with someone who will listen, help them deal with their emotions, and co-develop action plans that will set their personal trajectory toward their goal in a way that feels good to them.
That's empowering!
I'm Dee Thomas, a certified life coach. I have been working in schools as a special education paraeducator, volunteer, and middle school volleyball coach. With over 20 years of experience of working with children in a variety of capacities, I have gained knowledge in social-emotional learning, adolescent brain development, and the power of connection. I have 4 children of my own who are now teenagers and young adults. During my time as a mom and educator, I've learned a lot about what works with teens, both through my mistakes and my wins.
Building relationships with adolescents while helping them problem-solve and manage their emotions is my passion and my purpose. I want to help teens build self-awareness and self-assurance to advocate for themselves, thereby growing into healthy, resilient adults.
I enjoy working with teens of all genders, races, religions, capabilities, socioeconomic groups, and everything in between. We all have something valuable to share, and I want to help them bring out the best in themselves.
I offer 1:1 mentoring for teens to help them determine their aspirations, and what prevents them from achieving their goals. Sometimes a mindset shift is all that is needed, along with encouragement and accountability. Helping teens break free from what’s holding them back while also supporting their parents in their journey of empowerment creates a balanced, supportive dynamic. It’s like creating a space where both generations can thrive—teens finding their confidence and independence, and parents feeling equipped to guide them. My evidence-based strategies, combined with listening and laughter, can help them build self-confidence and motivation while dealing with the ups & downs of life.
I am also available as a communication coach for parents, giving them the tools they need to listen effectively, offer encouragement and compassion, and how to help their teen in ways that feel satisfying for everyone involved.
We can meet remotely, or in person in the greater Vancouver, WA area. In-person sessions will always be in public, at a coffee shop, juice bar, or a meeting room at a local library. I am open to suggestions, as well. I want you to feel comfortable and safe.
Life coaching for teens can help
them with:
Self-awareness & confidence
Academic success
Tools for anxiety reduction
Social & family connections
Relationships
Recognizing limiting beliefs
Setting healthy boundaries
Letting go of unhealthy relationships
Making realistic goals
Pursuing satisfaction in sports, creativity, performing arts, and music.
Or they need someone to talk to when the family is going through changes like moving, divorce, or remarriage. Coaching with me can give them the tools they need to manage their emotions, while still getting their schoolwork done and getting to practice on time. If your teenager is reluctant to participate in therapy, coaching could be the solution you're looking for.
In bi-weekly, 75 minute-long coaching sessions (virtual or in-person in the greater Vancouver, WA area), I help my clients evaluate the elements of their life. Where are they content? Where could things be better?
We flesh out their ideal future to build hope—what would it look and feel like?—then set small, self-directed goals to inch closer to that reality.
Along the way, we explore the elements that make the client who they are—their strengths, values and personality type—and turn their struggles and weaknesses into tools for building their ideal life.
Additionally, I offer mini-support calls of 20 minutes each on the off weeks to ensure your teen or young adult has the encouragement and accountability they need to be successful.
